About Us

Families of Grace, Inc. (Lift the FOG) was born out of love, loss, and an unwavering commitment to make sure no one faces an overdose alone.

In 2013, Ryan J. Colturi passed away from an overdose — alone, with no one there to help him. His daughter, Aurora Holmes, was just one year old at the time. Ryan's story is a painful reminder of why access to Naloxone and overdose education matters: a life can be saved when someone nearby knows what to do and has the tools to act.

Since Ryan's passing, his family has grown closer through their shared commitment to honoring his memory. Aurora and her sister, Skyla Colturi-Nardi, along with Ryan's parents, Annie and Keith Colturi, have remained close as a family bound by love and purpose. Aurora's grandmother and mother, Denise and Carrie Holmes, turned their grief into action — founding Families of Grace in 2018 to make sure other families are never left without help in a moment of crisis.

Carrie Holmes brings more than passion to this work — she brings lived experience. Having struggled with substance use throughout her childhood and adulthood, Carrie eventually found effective treatment that has helped her sustain her recovery. Her journey is a powerful reminder that recovery is possible, and that access to the right resources and support can change — and save — lives.

Today, our board works together to find more individuals and communities to serve:

  • Denise Holmes — President

  • Carrie Holmes — Vice President

  • Barbara Roux — Secretary

Since 2018, we've traveled from Florida to Connecticut, Maine, and Massachusetts, spreading awareness, distributing Naloxone, and educating communities on overdose prevention.

Our family's story is just one of many. Across the country, families are losing loved ones to overdose, and mental health and substance use resources remain out of reach for too many — due to cost, stigma, or simply a lack of awareness. We believe education and compassion save lives, and we're committed to standing together with our community until the fog lifts for everyone.
